Biography

Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Dr. Jillian Camwell is the Assistant Professor of Oboe at Troy University and is a Marigaux Performing Artist. She holds degrees from the Universities of Oregon, Northern Colorado, and Calgary, and she has performed throughout North America, Asia, and Europe with a variety of theatrical, orchestral, and chamber music ensembles. Dr. Camwell was a featured clinician and recitalist at Texas A&M Corpus Christi's Double Reed Day in 2023. She has performed solo and chamber recitals at the International Double Reed Society's annual conferences in Boulder, CO (2022) and upcoming in Flagstaff, AZ (2024). She holds the position of English horn with Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Iowa, and she performs regularly with many regional orchestras, including Alabama Symphony, Pensacola Symphony, Tuscaloosa Symphony, and Meridian Symphony. 

Camwell can be heard on two recordings (Timescape, and Sonoroso) with her saxophonist husband, Dave Camwell. In 2021, she released a recording of the complete 40 Progressive Melodies by A.M.R. Barret with Peter Cooper on the Teal Creek Music label. In 2023, she  recorded  Jenni Brandon's “Lemon Lily Waltz” and Robert W. Smith's  Oboe Concerto “Cosmic Harmonies” with pianist Hui-Ting Yang.  

Dr. Camwell has been an invited clinician to the Iowa Bandmasters Association  Convention and gives regular clinics and master classes to high schools and colleges in the Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida regions, including the Southeastern United States High School and Middle School Concert Band Clinic and Honor Bands, held annually at Troy University. In addition to teaching oboe lessons, reed making, piano lessons, Class Piano, Aural Skills, and Music History at Troy,  she maintains an active teaching studio in oboe and piano. She is the proud mother of three budding musicians.
